Honeymoon and Caladesi before and after Hurricane Pass
Two registered NOAA historical survey maps show one continuous Hog Island in 1884 and the mapped Hurricane Pass four to five years after the 1921 breach.

What changed
The clearest difference is categorical rather than measurable. The 1884 sheet draws one continuous barrier landform through the later pass location. The 1925-1926 sheet draws an opening and labels it Hurricane Pass. Read that pair with the dated USGS record, not as a fine shoreline or inlet-size comparison.

This is an 1884 surveyed map condition, not a pre-storm aerial or a claim about every intervening year.
USGS records that a 1921 hurricane broke through Hog Island to form Hurricane Pass, separating the north end of Caladesi from the land now called Honeymoon Island. USGS also records continued widening and deepening through 1926. The later map therefore shows a condition surveyed four to five years after the breach, not immediate storm aftermath.
