Robinson Preserve

South coast launch

Robinson Preserve is a south-coast kayak and paddleboard launch, free to park, clearest on an incoming tide.

487 acres of former tomato farm restored to mangrove and salt marsh, a 20-year conservation project that Manatee County funded and built section by section. The result is a maze of paddle trails through mangrove tunnels so thick the light filters down green, opening into pond systems where wading birds work the shallows. There's a 53-foot observation tower at the trailhead that's worth climbing for the aerial view of the trail system. Dolphins frequent Palma Sola Bay just beyond the preserve, and the warm tidal ponds inside become winter manatee habitat. The interior trails feel completely separate from the surrounding suburbia. You can paddle for an hour and forget you're in the middle of a city. The launches are clearly marked at the main park entrance.

Where do I park, and is it free?

Cost
Free
Parking
Moderate

Free preserve. At the North Kayak Launch you can drive right up and there is a freshwater rinse station, but launch space is tight when guided tours are loading, so be patient. Little shade, bring water.

How clear is the water?

Tunnels stay tannic (tea-brown); incoming tide opens up the shallower channels

What will I see?

What's the fishing like?

Snook, redfish, and trout through the tunnels and flats; mangrove snapper around the roots.

How do I share the water here?

Robinson is a restored mangrove and salt-marsh maze with no motors allowed, and its warm tidal ponds turn into manatee habitat in winter. Keep to the marked paddle trails through the mangrove tunnels rather than pushing into the shallows, and if a manatee surfaces near you hold still and let it pass, since by law it is passive observation only, no chasing and no touching.
